In The article “The Over-Scheduled Child” , The focus was mainly on a single aspect – that depicts parents as inattentive and lacking warmth. Actually their intention is safety and proper utilisation of time.
So we must understand the other aspect of why parents are forced to keep every hour tightly planned.
The following factors explain this better.
- Rise in nuclear families and increasing number of working mothers has reduced parental time available for regular supervision and meaningful interaction essential for children’s overall growth.
- Constant fear for children’s safety outside the home has left parents worried and helpless, forcing them to confine their children indoors.
- Streets once filled with children’s laughter are now choked with vehicles, leaving no safe space where children can run or play freely.
- Parks, meant to be joyful places once are either too distant or neglected, turning the lively play areas into dull and boring spaces.
- Screens occupy much of children’s limited free time, reducing relaxation and creativity.
- Sports classes, music lessons, and coaching have replaced free, unplanned play time as parents often view idle time as unproductive and therefore every hour is tightly planned.
Here it is worth mentioning that in this scenario many parents chose to send their children to reputed residential schools for their security, safety and all round progress. But sometimes because of financial constraints it does not suit all parents.
It may be mentioned here that Baru Sahib is playing a great role in this field.
Many Akal Academies are opened to provide better education and care in remote areas to spread education and raise children in a good environment by providing worldly and spiritual education.
